RightClick+

Right-click like you did on Windows.

RightClick+ adds New, Send to and Open with to Finder's right-click menu. Make a Word document or a folder where you are, zip files in one click, open a project in your editor.

Download for Mac

Free. macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Or with Homebrew: brew install luklalogic/rightclickplus/rightclickplus
Documents

Right-click anywhere in this window to try it.

Set up in a minute

  1. Install RightClick+

Open the downloaded file and drag RightClick+ to Applications, or install it with Homebrew.

  2. Open it once

macOS only adds the Finder extension after the app has been opened.

  3. Turn on the extension

System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Added Extensions → turn on RightClick+ Extension. The app has a button that takes you there.

  4. Right-click in any folder

Choose New ▸ Text Document to see it work. Change what the menus show in the RightClick+ app.

In iCloud Drive folders, Finder hides right-click items from other apps, including Desktop and Documents when they sync with iCloud. Add the RightClick+ button to the Finder toolbar for those: View → Customize Toolbar… and drag it in.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Every feature, no trial, no account, no ads.

Do I need Microsoft Office or Pages?

No. An item only shows up when you have an app that can open it, so without Office you won't see the Word, Excel and PowerPoint items. You can show them anyway in the app's settings.

Does it read my files or send anything anywhere?

No. It creates, copies and zips files on your Mac when you ask, and that's all. The only thing it fetches is a small update file from this website. See the privacy policy.

The menu doesn't show up

Check the extension is turned on (step 3 above). If you also use NewFile, turn its extension off: Finder shows only one of the two menus. Other apps that add their own Finder menus, such as some cloud storage apps, can do the same. More on the support page.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon or Intel.
